South Melbourne Market Wins FM Innovation Award for Sustainability

3 September 2018

South Melbourne Market has been awarded the FM award for Hospitality and the overall Innovation Award at the recent FM Innovation Awards ceremony held as part of Facilities Week.

The sustainability initiatives at South Melbourne Market are many and varied, but a critical area for the market has been in the area of water management. Working with SUMS  to monitor common area water usage (potable and rain water), sub-meter 79 individual store holders, and monitoring water refill stations to illustrate the number of plastic bottles diverted from landfill was a key component of the award criteria.

To aid in cost recovery and to encourage water conservation, the sub-metering of the 79 individual store holders required a billing solution that would enable South Melbourne Market to charge each store holder for their individual usage.

Energy On was appointed to manage the water billing process on behalf of South Melbourne Market using the data on consumption provided by SUMS from the sub-metering. Whilst it is more common to see embedded network solutions referring to electricity supply, the ability to provide solutions across a number of different utilities is key to both to Energy On’s service delivery principles and to our customer’s ability to manage the supply and costs associated with utility provision in multi-tenant environments.

Energy On congratulates the team at South Melbourne Market’s Facility Management team on receiving this well-deserved award.
